Step 1 of 4 25% This agreement outlines the relationship between WOOFS! DTC and you, the apprentice. An apprenticeship is a powerful relationship. In exchange for your assistance, WOOFS! will share with you valuable knowledge and mentorship. The average WOOFS! apprenticeship lasts about 2 years, but can proceed slower or faster. The more time you dedicate to learning a craft the faster you will progress. The goal is to teach you how to lead a basic group dog training class. This involves learning how to train dogs and their handlers. Not every apprentice will achieve this goal. We are interested in a long term relationship – you dedicate your time and we will invest in you. Apprentice Commitment to WOOFS! DTCAs an Apprentice Trainer, WOOFS! DTC will expect the following:Minimum of one year commitment to the apprentice program* Agree Log three (3) hours per week of class observation and/or assistance (includes Puppy Party)* Agree Train and assist exclusively for WOOFS! DTC for the duration of the apprenticeship. Written approval from Laura Sharkey to work for or apprentice for another location training organization may occasionally be granted. We do encourage Apprentices to attend classes, workshops or seminars at other training locations or from other trainers.* Agree Arrive at least ten minutes early for all scheduled classes. Notify the lead trainer of the class as early as reasonably possible when unable to attend a scheduled class.* Agree Dress and present oneself in a clean and professional manner at all times while on WOOFS! DTC premises and when representing WOOFS! DTC, including while wearing a WOOFS! DTC shirt in public.* Agree Wear provided name tag and WOOFS! DTC shirt while assisting with classes. Apprentices will be provided with one or more dark blue staff t-shirts. Shirt and name tag are not required during observation sessions.* Agree Never question or contradict a lead trainer in front of a client. Please do ask questions or raise concerns after clients have gone.* Agree Always refer students to a more senior trainer when asked any questions which apprentice has not yet been cleared to coach or teach as part of the apprentice program. Apprentice will never, ever "wing it" or guess at answers.* Agree Take notes and ask lots of questions! Q and A are a required element of learning.* Agree WOOFS! DTC Commitment to the ApprenticeWOOFS! DTC will make the following commitment to the Apprentice Trainer:We will provide instruction on teaching dogs using force free, positive reinforcement methods. Apprentice will learn a range of positive approaches as required to teach dogs with different learning styles and personalities.* Agree We will provide instruction on teaching human students the skills needed to teach their dogs using clear, positive approaches of Tranquil Training and TAGteach. Apprentice will learn a range of approaches as required to teach humans with different learning styles and personalities.* Agree We will provide instruction and coaching on proper classroom management. Apprentice will experience different management styles based on class size and dynamics.* Agree Your assigned Lead Trainer will answer all questions about classes that you observe or in which you assist. Questions may be answered by phone or email if schedules do not permit discussion immediately following class.* Agree Apprentices are invited to observe any class taught at WOOFS! DTC, including access to their trainers. Most trainers will be glad to answer questions about classes observed.* Agree Apprentices will learn how to execute and to teach: clicker mechanics, leash management, Voluntary Attention, Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Touch, Loose Leash Walking, adding a cue to a behavior, and how to address basic behavior challenges (jumping on people, puppy mouthing, handling, leash pulling, routine house training, crate training, and more)* Agree SignatureIn addition to meeting the terms of this agreement, I agree to not represent myself as a WOOFS! apprentice until I have completed the Apprentice I requirements and have graduated to an Apprentice II. In addition, I will not refer to myself as a WOOFS! Dog Trainer until I have completed the apprentice program and received the title of Assistant Trainer.
