Thanksgiving approaches, and with it, a time to gather, reflect, and give thanks for the things that make life rich and joyful. In WOOFS! Daycare PLUS, we’re especially grateful for our friendships, human and canine alike. This month, as our dogs train and learn, we also celebrate the friendships our pups have with each other.
In our Daycare PLUS photo set dog training, we always work on stays. Our Thanksgiving twist: can our Daycare PLUS dogs also stay in pairs? Inspired by the season of togetherness, we challenged our pups to sit at the table with a friend. We often photograph dogs from the same household, but asking unrelated dogs to share space (and camera time!) is a whole new level of teamwork. It means sitting close together, strong enough stays that both dogs look at camera at the same time, and if we’re lucky, getting two smiles in the same shot!
This challenge aligns with our Double Dog Down Thanksgiving dog training activity we’ve chosen to do for TWO weeks of Daycare PLUS in November. We practice asking two dogs to hold a down stay at the same time. If dogs are sufficiently advanced, we can then ask one dog to continue to stay while the second dog gets up to do additional tricks or training activities like ‘spin’. In preparation for the distraction of holiday travel and holiday visitors, our dogs can’t possibly have too much practice with calm and settled stays!
