Laura and Ariana Named Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partners

Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training PartnerWOOFS! owner Laura Sharkey and Private Training Director Ariana Kincaid have graduated with distinction and named Certified Training Partners by the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior. 

Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior is an innovative institution committed to educating, certifying, and promoting the next generation of animal trainers.  Certified Training Partners participate in an extensive educational program culminating in a detailed assessment of their technical ability and hands-on skill teaching pet owners and training pet dogs. Successful candidates must complete the program, earn the equivalent of an A on each component of the assessment, and pledge to uphold the high standards and practices of Karen Pryor Academy.

We are incredibly proud of this acheivement, and of Laura and Arianas' continued dedication to world class animal training.

 

Patti Hight and Rebekah Klemm Certified by CCPDT

We are pleased to announce that trainers Patti Hight and Rebekah Klemm have been awarded CPDT-KA certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.

CPDT-KA stands for Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed. Applicants must complete 300 hours of client training before trainers are eligible for an extensive semiannual test. Certificants must demonstrate ongoing education and professional development to maintain credentials. CCPDT offers the only international, standardized certification for professional dog trainers that is both science-based and independent of any course of study.

Laura Sharkey to Speak at APDT

Congratulations to owner Dr. Laura Sharkey on her upcoming lectures at the The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) annual educational conference.  Her talks include "Everything I Know I Learned From Playing Tug" and "Stop Talking, Start Training", a presentation of our signature Tranquil Training™ program. We are very proud that she has been asked to speak to such an esteemed group of professionals.

Reminder: Ballston will be closed for day care on Weds the 1th and Thurs the 17th, and there will be no class or puppy party at Ballston from Tues the 15th through Mon the 12th. Our trainers will return on Tues the 23rd, ready to share what they've learned!

   

Laura Sharkey To Speak at Green Festival

WOOFS! owner Dr. Laura Sharkey will be speaking on the Pet Stage this Saturday at 4pm. She will be talking about why relationship based training is healthier for both you and your dog. The Green Festival takes place this weekend at the Washington DC Convention Center. WOOFS! has a limited number of FREE passes if you are interested in attending.

No daycare evaluations noon-3pm on Monday 9/17

We are unable to conduct any daycare evaluations on Monday 9/17 between noon and 3pm due to a mandatory manager meeting. 

   

New Puppy Classes!

We have added two new puppy classes. These classes have a small group format with a maximum of 6 students per class.  

The session is only 5 weeks long but each class is 1.5 hrs. The emphasis is on providing individual attention and teaching basic skills to fluency. 

Classes start on Friday July 6 at 7pm or Friday August 10 at 7 pm. Call 703-379-9022 to register.

Erica Pytlovany in the News!

WOOFS! Trainer and Rally Obedience expert Erica Pytlovany has been published in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) nationwide bi-monthly magazine, "The Chronicle of the Dog".

Her article on Rally Obedience appeared in the 2011 Nov/Dec issue.  Erica is also writing a series of articles on effective group class teaching that will be published over the next year.  Erica is an extraordinary trainer whose innovative classroom exercises help to make training fun and efective for both dog and handler.  You can learn more about Rally Obedience at Rally-O and subscribe to the Chronicle at Chronicle of the Dog

Erica's rally classes are held on Saturdays between 1pm and 4pm. If you think you might be interested in Rally you are welcome to come observe a class (without your dog please) any time.
