Group Classes: Intermediate & Advanced

Intermediate Obedience

Build on the skills you and your dog learned in Basic Class.  Strengthen good public manners, get faster, more reliable responses, and learn how and when to fade the use of food.

Content: Attention, sit, down, stay, come when called, loose-leash walking, leave it, polite greetings
Cost: $225
Prerequisites: Positive reinforcement Basic Obedience class (sorry, PETCO and PetSmart classes don’t satisfy the requirement)

 

 

Advanced Obedience

Continue your dog’s training with a higher level of focus and precision whether you want to master your dog's everyday manners or build skills for Rally, competition obedience, or Fenzi TEAM titles.  There is a lot of material at the advanced level so topics will vary each session.

Content:  Core skills: heeling, fronts and finishes, plus at least two classes with Rally courses.  Rotating skills:  reducing reliance on food reinforcement, behavior chains, advanced attention around distractions, Rally Obedience and obedience competition skills, platforms, working at a distance, transitioning to work off-leash, more.
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  WOOFS! Intermediate Obedience or instructor permission.  Dog must be responsive to owner and able to focus in classroom environment.

 

 

Canine Good Citizen

Learn and practice the elements of the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test.

Content: Greeting friendly strangers, sitting politely for petting, loose-leash walking, walking through a crowd, sit, down, stay, recall, and more
Cost: $225 (includes one CGC exam after the completion of class)
Prerequisites:  WOOFS! Intermediate Obedience or instructor permission.  Dog must be responsive to owner and able to focus in classroom environment.

 

 

Canine Good Citizen Test

Schedule a time to take the Canine Good Citizen Test.  It is NOT necessary to take any class before you take the test.

Content: Visit the American Kennel Club website for the requirments for the Canine Good Citizen test.
Cost: $15 (one test is free each time you register for the Canine Good Citizen class)
Prerequisites:  None.

 

 

Tricks

Continue your dog's training and have fun at the same time.  Tricks can improve your dog's focus, strengthen your relationship with your dog, and improve your skills as a trainer.  

Content: Lots of trick behaviors taught with a variety of training approaches like shaping, luring, capturing and targeting.  The difficulty level for each trick is based on your dog’s current experience level.  Many dogs will be ready to apply for a Novice Trick Dog title through Do More With Your Dog by the end of the seven week session.
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  WOOFS! Intermediate Obedience or instructor permission.  Dog must be responsive to owner and able to focus in classroom environment.

 

 

K9 Nosework: Introduction

Let your dog sniff their way to success! Nosework teaches your dog to use his natural scenting abilities to find a treat or object and then tell you where it is. Great for ALL dogs, this sport builds confidence, improves relationships and is just plain fun!

Content: Introduction to box searches
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  Must have portable crate you can bring to class and dog must be able to crate quietly.

 

 

K9 Nosework: Intermediate

More fun for your dog using his amazing sense of smell!  We will be introducing dogs to scent (birch) in this class.  We continue to challenge the dog's ability to follow their nose and the handler's ability to read their dog.

Content: Introduction to odor (birch)
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  Completion of Nosework: Introduction. Must have portable crate you can bring to class and dog must be able to crate quietly.

 

 

K9 Nosework: Advanced

Odor challenges may include outdoor scentwork, car searches and preparation for K9 Nosework Odor Recognition Test (ORT).

Content: Advanced searches using birch, anise and clove
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  Completion of Nosework: Intermediate. Must have portable crate you can bring to class and dog must be able to crate quietly.

 

 

K9 Nosework Travel

Practice for Nosework competition.  Runs will attempt to simulate trial conditions.

Content: Practice trial-like conditions at various locations.
Cost: $215
Prerequisites:  Dogs must be working all three scents and have passed at least one K9 Nosework Odor Recognition Test (ORT). Must have portable crate you can bring to class and dog must be able to crate quietly.
